Seiya Izumi Abueva is a Japanese-Filipino who was born and raised in Kobe, Japan. She was born in a well-off household, where the values of elegance, modesty, and integrity are instilled; however, despite her social status, she remained respectful and humble towards others. Although she was raised in Japan, she was able to learn how to speak and converse well in Filipino with the help of her father, her older sister— Redleigh, and her childhood friend Ythan, who often visits their house.In her early life in Japan, she excelled academically, taking an interest in science and healthcare as she often saw the technologically advanced healthcare system in Japan.2015-2023
By the age of 18, she had passed both university admission tests in Japan and the Philippines, and was already expected to continue studying in Japan. However, she sought change in her environment, which led her to decide to study in the Philippines. She took nursing as her pre-med course at UST. Despite being able to speak Filipino, she had a hard time making friends due to her quiet and reserved personality, her different upbringing, and her sense of humor. Aside from that, during her clinical exposure, Seiya encountered a different environment, far from the healthcare system she grew up with.That exposure has opened her eyes and led her to pursue Medicine at the same university. And she did her post-graduate internship at PGH. She was exposed to a harsher reality with the healthcare system; however, that gave her a stronger reason to continue in medicine. As she stayed in the Philippines, Seiya had learned to adapt and blend with others.2023-Present
After passing the Physician Licensure Exam, she decided to apply to a residency program in internal medicine and is currently in her second year of residency. She also adopted a bichon frise puppy, naming her Yuki (雪=snow) to accompany her in her condo. During her free days, Sei often enjoys redecorating her home, sleeping, or exploring cafes if she has enough energy to do so.
